FIRST NEW FORD LASER TIERRA LAUNCHED IN ASEAN
BANGKOK, Thailand, 19 March 2002 – Ford Sales and Service (Thailand) Co., Ltd. today revealed the new Ford Laser Tierra passenger car to the press and Ford dealers, making Thailand the first market in South East Asia to introduce the new model.

Judging from its success in Taiwan, where the competition in the mid-size passenger car segment is one of the most competitive in the world, we expect customers in Thailand to be delighted at the level of sophisticated design and luxury, equipment, appearance, comfort and performance. We believe the expectations of Thailand consumers of mid-size passengers cars are very similar to Taiwan’s and other Asia-Pacific markets – the appearance, features, comfort and performance of a luxury vehicle, but still provide great value package that is competitive. We believe the new Laser Tierra has not only met that criteria, but has actually exceeded that expectation.”
The Ford Laser Tierra features state-of-the-art multi-reflector projector headlamps and clear trapezoid rear light cluster that not improves nighttime driving visibility, but gives the Tierra a modern exterior appearance from almost any angle. Chromed front grille with matching chrome rear garnish that incorporates reverse lamps and new alloy wheel design complete the exterior luxury appearance.
The luxury theme continues into the interior with beige two-tone instrument panel design with matching tan-colour leather seats and trim, leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear shift on the high series 1.8L Ghia automatic. CD and cassette player with 6 speakers is also standard equipment with both 1.6L and 1.8L automatic.
Driver and passenger comfort has been significantly improved with better sound and road noise insulation engineering and material.
Passenger safety has always remained a major priority on Ford products. The Laser Tierra’s body structure is engineered around the rigid Triple H safety structure, with standard driver airbag (including passenger airbag for 1.8L Ghia), 4-wheel disk brakes, Anti-Locking Braking System (ABS) that works with Electronic Brake Force Dsitribution System (EBD) to ensure maximum driver and passengers safety while enjoying the Tierra’s superior performance and handling.
A first for Ford customers in Thailand - a 24-hour Roadside Assistance Program is standard package with the Laser Tierra. This is a nationwide program that take care of the Ford customers in circumstances like punctured tire, flat battery, locking car key inside the vehicle and even in the unlikely event of an accident while on the road.
The Laser Tierra is offered in three models and trim levels.
- 1.6L Vxi with manual transmission
- 1.6L Vxi with auto transmission
- 1.8L Ghia automatic with standard leather interior trim
The new Ford Laser Tierra will make its public debut at the 23rd Bangkok International Motor Show at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Center during March 29- April 7, 2002.
