FORD STAYS IN FRONT WITH ACCELERATING SALES

BRENTWOOD, Essex, 6 December, 2006 – Ford's UK sales leadership is strengthening thanks to increased customer demand across its model range. From the Ford Ka to the new Galaxy people carrier, every Ford car is selling faster than 12 months ago. November figures released today by the Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders (SMMT) show car registrations were up by over 18 per cent for Ford compared with the same month a year ago. This sales surge seals 30 consecutive years of car market leadership for the blue oval. Every year since 1977 the country's top selling car brand has been Ford. Favourite among UK private buyers, the Ford Fiesta has been one best seller which has kept Ford on top during all 30 years. Newcomers Ford S-MAX, voted Car of the Year 2007, and the latest version Ford Galaxy have triggered a four-fold increase in sales of Ford people carriers – from 429 in November 2005 to 1,745 last month. The new Southampton-built Transit is driving Ford's rising commercial vehicle registrations. Ford vans and cars accounted for more than one in six new vehicles driven out of UK showrooms in November. Ford took almost 17 per cent of car and commercial vehicle sales last month – nearly three percentage points ahead of 2005. Total vehicle sales soared from 26,822 units last year to 31,532 in November this year. Roelant de Waard, Ford of Britain chairman and managing director, said: "Last year the iconic Transit clocked up 40 years as the UK's number one commercial vehicle. With exciting new models such as the Focus Coupe-Cabriolet and the all-new Mondeo arriving next year we're aiming to keep Ford in front in 2007
