Ford Celebrates 45 Years of an Icon with Mustang
Alabama is gearing up to show Mustang one heck of a birthday party. This weekend, thousands of pony enthusiasts from the U.S. and beyond will converge in Birmingham for a weekend of vintage displays, street parties and road racing, all in honor of the 45th anniversary of an American icon. In addition to the day officially being declared as “Mustang Day” by the state of Alabama, the arrival of a cross-country Mustang convoy will help make the weekend a once-in-a-lifetime event for pony fans.  more...

Ford Showcases Powertrain Advancements at 2009 SAE World Congress
During the 2009 Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) World Congress on April 20-23, Ford will detail its latest hybrid and powertrain solutions. Ford’s EcoBoost engine technology and electrification plan will be the key topics of discussion, with a focus on technical solutions behind the 3.5-liter EcoBoost gas engine combustion system and the development of more efficient lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery systems. Ford engineers, researchers and academia will present more than 70 papers on a variety of powertrain, safety, design and manufacturing topics. Ford’s Dr. Gerhard Schmidt will receive SAE’s new Franz F. Pischinger Powertrain Innovation Award for his dedication to improving fuel economy and reducing emissions.  more...

Fusion Hybrid and Flex Snag Best Interior Awards
Two Ford products – the 2009 Flex and 2010 Fusion Hybrid – are winners in the 2009 Ward’s Interior of the Year competition, with Ford being the only brand to walk away with multiple awards. Flex took Best Interior in the Premium-priced Truck category and the Fusion Hybrid received a special-achievement award for Best Graphic Display. The Flex won over Ward’s editors with its ergonomics and for making the third-row just about as comfortable as the first-and second-row seats. The Fusion Hybrid’s SmartGauge with EcoGuide digital instrument cluster impressed judges with the amount of information packaged in a way that is simple to understand.  more...

Li-ion Battery Plant Investment Boosts Ford’s Electrification Plans
Ford is one step closer to producing plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) with supplier Johnson Controls-Saft’s announcement Tuesday that the battery maker plans to build its first U.S. cell manufacturing facility for lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery systems in Holland, Mich. Ford recently entered into a partnership with the supplier to develop an advanced Li-ion battery system to power Ford’s first commercial PHEV as part of its electrification strategy. The Li-ion battery system will be used to power Ford’s pure battery electric-powered Transit Connect commercial van in 2010, a battery electric-powered passenger car developed jointly with Magna International by 2011 and a PHEV and next-generation hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) by 2012.  more...
