Safety innovation takes a back seat, and that's a good thing
Who says inflation is always a negative? Ford is introducing the auto industry's first-ever production inflatable seat belts that will go into the next-generation Ford Explorer next year. Inflatable seat belts are designed to provide additional protection for rear-seat occupants – often, children and older passengers who can be more vulnerable to head, chest and neck injuries. more...

The wheat fields are waving – 2010 Ford Flex sports natural fiber-based plastic
Wheat is typically thought of as an ingredient in food products – not as a component that goes into the construction of your car. But Ford researchers have found a way to make that happen, and wheat straw plastic is set to debut on the 2010 Ford Flex. The plastic contains 20 percent wheat straw bio-filler and is used for Flex's third-row interior storage bins. The newest application of sustainable material for Ford reduces petroleum usage by some 20,000 pounds per year and CO2 emissions by 30,000 pounds per year. more...
