TAIPEI, Taiwan, June 4, 2012 – Ford Motor Company announced today it will bring its award-winning Ford SYNC® system to Taiwan in the new Ford Focus, with the voice-activated in-car connectivity system to be showcased at Computex 2012.
Ford also revealed that AppLink, a program which gives drivers voice control of smart phone apps, will be available in Asia as part of its global roll-out.
Visitors to Computex 2012 will also be the first in Asia to see Ford’s stunning Evos Concept car, which embraces cloud technology so that the car seamlessly adapts to the driver and takes the driving experience to a whole new level.
“Computex, one of the most influential computer exhibitions in the world, provides an excellent environment for Ford to highlight our commitment to not only developing and delivering the best global technologies, but also make them very user-friendly,” said Thomas Fann, president, Ford Lio Ho Motor Company. “Visitors to Computex will be able to see first-hand the features Ford is introducing to keep our customers seamlessly connected to their digital lives.
“SYNC, powered by Microsoft, is not just a technology, it’s an experience that will have people looking forward to spending time behind the wheel of their vehicle.”
Ford is making its first appearance at Asia’s biggest computer exhibition, where it will demonstrate its latest innovations in connected services and cloud computing as it reinforces its position as a global leader in technology.
Visitors to the Ford booth will have an opportunity to experience the award-winning in-car connectivity system SYNC, which will allow customers in Taiwan to make phone calls or play their favourite music by using voice commands.
Powered by Microsoft, SYNC lets customers connect almost any mobile phone or digital media player to their Focus via Bluetooth® and USB connection respectively. Drivers can use their steering wheel-mounted controls or voice command to manage SYNC’s features.
Ford will also be bringing to Asia Ford SYNC® AppLink™, a program that allows drivers to access various smartphone apps using voice commands and buttons on their steering wheel.
Ford will demonstrate some of AppLink’s features at its booth and will also showcase the efforts from a 24-hour “Facebook Hackathon” earlier this year where Ford and Facebook engineers sought ways to socialize the car, for example, by searching for restaurants that a friend has “liked,” or automatically checking in to your location once you park your car. Details of the event can be found at:
Another highlight of the Ford booth will be Ford’s Evos Concept, which embraces cloud technology to enhance the driving experience.
The Evos Concept embodies Ford’s new global design language and provides a glimpse of the company’s vision on integrating more technology into its vehicles. The car was built around a technology experience as visionary as the design, with the results signaling how Ford will build on the momentum of innovations like SYNC.
The Evos Concept can access information from the driver’s cloud to provide a connected lifestyle. Using knowledge of the driver, the car can adapt its handling, steering and engine controls to ensure an exceptionally dynamic driving experience.
Through integration of on-board data about driver preferences with cloud-based information such as work schedules, music and weather conditions, and local data delivered through vehicle-to-vehicle communications, Evos Concept aims to make life simpler.
At Computex, Ford will also participate in a panel discussion on the topic of “Collaborative Synchronization for a smart life,” where Ford will discuss insights into the future of technology, and how Ford’s leadership position will continue to evolve as it strives to be a leader in in-car connectivity. The company will share how it is exploring the possibilities in using cloud technology to extend a connected lifestyle from home and office to the vehicle, providing new possibilities for personalization and adaptability of the car – and how this will enhance people’s lives into the future.
