BANGKOK, Thailand, 4 September, 2012 – The momentum of Ford Thailand kept on rolling in August as the company today announced its fourth consecutive month of record sales. Led by the best-ever monthly sales for the all-new Ford Focus and all-new Ford Ranger, and continued strength in demand for the class-leading Fiesta, Ford’s overall August retail sales soared 131 percent year-over-year to 6,175 units.
The record performance also represented the first time that Ford broke through 6,000 sales mark in Thailand. Ford’s year-to-date sales through August have now risen 62 percent versus the same period a year ago to 33,222 units.
“Our successful product-led transformation continues to gain momentum, with our segment-leading vehicles like the all-new Ranger, all-new Focus and Ford Fiesta helping to attract so many new-to-Ford customers,” said Matt Bradley, president, Ford ASEAN. “We’re absolutely determined to continue building on this success.”
The all-new Ford Focus got off to an exceptional start in its first official month of availability, with retail sales jumping 368 percent from the previous-generation Focus last year to 923 units – representing its best-ever monthly performance in Thailand.
Packed with several first-in-market and first-in-segment smart technologies, the all-new Focus has significantly raised the bar in the compact segment. In addition to the smart technologies, the all-new Focus is helping to redefine the compact car segment by delivering a best-in-class cost-of-ownership experience.
The all-new Focus also received a special honor in August, as Ford held a global celebration in Thailand for the production of its 350 millionth vehicle -- a Candy Red all-new Focus that rolled off the line at the company’s new, $450 million state-of-the-art Ford Thailand Manufacturing facility in Rayong.
The class-defining all-new Ford Ranger turned in another extraordinary month with retail sales surging 265 percent from the previous-generation Ranger last year to 2,724 units – also representing its best-ever monthly performance in Thailand.
The all-new Ranger delivers proven durability, outstanding capability, advanced technologies and exceptional fuel efficiency all packaged in 21st Century Tough styling.
“Our all-new Ranger customers are not only getting class-leading towing, payload and water-wading capabilities, but also superior fuel economy, cabin refinement and comfort, and the latest smart technologies,” said Wichit Wongwatthanakan, sales director, Ford Thailand.
Demand for the all-new Ranger in Thailand continues to surge, with overall customer bookings now reaching more than 31,000 units since launch.
The popular Ford Fiesta continued to prove its segment leadership with overall retail sales rising more than 50 percent in August to 2,437 units. The Fiesta’s unmatched combination of design, safety, fuel efficiency, and smart technologies continues to appeal to young and trendy Thai consumers.
Through the first eight months of the year, overall Fiesta sales have increased more than 31 percent to 17,065 units.
“The Ford Fiesta is one of the clear leaders in Thailand’s small car segment, and it’s so exciting to see the Fiesta’s popularity and visibility continue to grow in the market,” added Wichit.
