Seat fabric in new Ford Focus Electric uses waste to create a better world Sitting on empty plastic bottles in a car would be less than ideal, but not with the new Ford Focus Electric that features seat fabric made of recycled material. The fiber – called REPREVE® – is made from a hybrid blend of recycled materials and manufactured by Unifi, a global leader in sustainable textile solutions. Twenty-two plastic, 16-ounce water bottles are used in the seats of a single Focus Electric. Ford is the first automaker to use this fiber in its seats. Ford has been granted two patents that cover the process. One covers cleaning and activating the edge of the windshield glass in less than 10 seconds. A second covers application of a plasma-reacted nano-coating that modifies the surface for bonding of the adhesive to hold the windshield in place. Dan Pierce | dpierc41@ford.com | 313.594.0949 |
