Tom Ozog: Chief Engineer Has Help from His Family When It Comes to Keeping Flex Fresh

Tom Ozog’s children are encouraged to tell him how to do his day job.
Ozog’s son and daughter play soccer all over Michigan, riding to games in the vehicle he engineers – the Ford Flex.
“The Flex applies to our lifestyle,” Tom says. “My wife has driven two Flex vehicles and she wants the new one.”
His kids aren’t afraid to let him know what features they’d like to see in the latest edition.
“It’s nice to get that free-flowing, candid feedback on a vehicle I get to help engineer,” he said.
Since 2002 Tom Ozog has worked in product programs, first as program manager and then as chief engineer for the Ford Edge. Flex was added to his portfolio in 2009.
Background
- Tom graduated from Lawrence Tech and worked for General Motors before joining Ford in 1993
- At Ford, he first worked in Powertrain Controls as an engine diagnostics calibrator on the Mustang, F-Series and Explorer
- With the inception of the Edge, Tom began work in product programs
- He lives with his family in Canton, Mich.

- Ozog is Ford Flex program chief engineer – he oversees all engineering development of the vehicle
- “I enjoy working in product programs,” he said. “It’s a rewarding experience being on the front line of a new vehicle development – from the initial planning of the product to the final launch phase of bringing the vehicle to market”
