NHTSA CONCLUDES NO NEED TO OPEN FORD EXPLORER INVESTIGATION
(12 Feb 02) DEARBORN, Mich., February 12, 2002 -- The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has concluded that there is no need to open an investigation into the Ford Explorer. This is consistent with real-world performance data showing the Explorer to be among the safest of vehicles, and NHTSA's previous finding that many Firestone Wilderness AT tires built before 1998 contain a safety defect. -- Sue Cischke, Vice President of Environmental and Safety Engineering

RESPONSE TO ATTORNEYS GENERAL SETTLEMENT
(08 Nov 01) As we were not involved, it would be inappropriate for us to comment on the settlement between Bridgestone/Firestone and the Attorneys General. Our number one priority is the safety of our customers and that principle has guided all of our actions.

NHTSA CONCLUDES SOME FIRESTONE WILDERNESS AT TIRES CONTAIN SAFETY DEFECT, WHILE MONITORING REMAINING TIRES
(04 Oct 01) DEARBORN, Mich., October 4, 2001 -- Because the safety and trust of our customers is Ford's number one priority, we acted on May 22, 2001, and began replacing all 15-, 16- and 17-inch Firestone Wilderness AT tires on our vehicles as a precautionary action.
