New Ford B-MAX Achieves Best-In-Class Fuel Economy and CO2 Emissions for Both Diesel and Petrol Models
- Ford’s new B-MAX compact multi-activity vehicle will deliver the best fuel economy in its class in both the diesel and petrol categories
- Ford’s new 1.0-liter EcoBoost 120PS petrol engine is 15 percent more economical than key competitors; the 1.6-liter TDCi 95PS diesel also beats rivals on fuel economy and CO2 emissions
- Ford low-CO2 technologies can help owners save as much as €340* per year compared to competition
COLOGNE, Germany, Feb. 9, 2012– The all-new Ford B-MAX – the versatile multi-activity vehicle debuting this year -- sets a new standard in its class for fuel economy and CO2 emissions with Ford’s latest petrol and diesel engines.
The new B-MAX powered by 1.6-liter TDCi delivers 104 g/km CO2 emissions and 4.0 l/100km (70.6mpg). This compares to between 109 and 119 g/km CO2 and between 4.1 and 4.6 l/100km from competing multi-activity vehicles on the market.
The B-MAX with a 1.0-liter EcoBoost petrol engine (120PS) will offer 114g/km CO2 emissions and fuel economy of 4.9l/100km (57.6mpg). Customers could save roughly €340* per year compared with B-MAX’s petrol rivals, which trail behind with 134-149g/km CO2 emissions and 5.7l-6.4l/100km fuel consumption.
“Our goal with B-MAX was to redefine the segment through technology and ingenuity – and that includes delivering the very best fuel economy,” said Barb Samardzich, vice president, Product Development, Ford of Europe.
The B-MAX features a range of technologies which reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. These include Auto-Start-Stop, which automatically shuts down the engine when the vehicle is at idle; the Ford Eco Mode driver information system, which helps drivers adopt a more economical driving style; Gear Shift Indicator, to highlight the most efficient gear changing points; and Smart Regenerative Charging, which charges the battery at the most economical points in a journey.
Bringing the B-MAX to production demanded a new approach to door construction, which has resulted in wide-open access for drivers, passengers and luggage; with the center pillars integrated into the doors themselves. The B-MAX also will deliver superior craftsmanship and high quality materials rarely found on an affordable compact car, together with flexible-seating and class-leading load-space.
The all-new B-MAX will debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month and go on sale across Europe later this year.
