SHANGHAI, October 10, 2022 – Ford Motor Company sold more than 133,000 units in China in the third quarter 2022, down 11% year-over-year but reflecting a marked improvement of 12% over second quarter results as sales momentum strengthened with further lifting of pandemic-related restrictions. Demand for Ford and Lincoln brand vehicles continued sales upswing with a stronger refreshed portfolio that includes four new launches: all-new Ford Explorer and special editions of Lincoln Navigator One, Navigator Presidential edition and Corsair Alaska that helped bring customers back to showrooms. Laying the groundwork for future growth, Ford Model e Technology was formally established as a dedicated entity to focus on the development Ford’s EV business in China and accelerate business transformation towards electrified and connected vehicles as part of the Ford+ plan.
Ford brand passenger vehicle sales of approximately 54,400 units, down 12% year-over-year but up 23% compared to the second quarter, were driven by strong demand for SUVs. Sales of Ford brand SUVs surpassed 32,700 units, up 3% year-over-year and reflects an increase of 27% quarter-over-quarter. Ford’s SUV portfolio was further refreshed in the third quarter with the launch of the new Ford Explorer, which received more than 5,000 customer orders within two days of its launch on September 6.
Lincoln’s third quarter sales in China surpassed 23,800 units, flat compared to a year ago but up 31% quarter-over-quarter as China’s luxury segment customers gradually returned to showrooms following the lifting of pandemic-related restrictions. Similar to Ford brand vehicle sales, Lincoln’s sales performance in the quarter was driven by strong demand for SUVs, including the best-selling Lincoln Corsair which sold more than 11,000 units and is the brand’s top selling vehicle for 29 consecutive months.

Third quarter summary
Lincoln achieved record third quarter sales results with more than 23,800 units, flat year-over-year and up 31% quarter-over-quarter:
- Locally-produced SUVs accounted for 17,700 units, up 24% compared to the second quarter
- Zephyr, Lincoln’s first locally-produced flagship sedan, sold approximately 5,500 units – up 54% quarter-over-quarter
- Three special edition vehicles were introduced, including the sold-out Corsair Alaska as well as the Navigator Presidential edition and Navigator One, both of which contributed to a rise in Navigator sales to approximately 600 units, up 64% quarter-over-quarter
- Quality propelled Aviator to rank first in value preservation among joint venture-produced medium and large size SUVs, per China Automobile Dealers Association’s latest report
Ford passenger vehicle sales approached 54,400 units, down 12% year-over-year but up 23% quarter-over-quarter:
- Mondeo flagship sedan sales exceeded 14,100 units, up 50% year-over-year and increased 26% compared to second quarter sales
- Newly-launched Equator Sport sales surpassed 7,500 units, up 59% quarter-over-quarter, and exported 16,000 units to other markets on rising demand
- F-150 Raptor made its China public debut at the Chengdu Motor Show and began deliveries to customers, supported by launch of the Ford China Journey Academy to help customers familiarize with the vehicle’s capabilities
Ford brand electric vehicle sales exceeded 1,400 units in the third quarter:
- Mustang Mach-E year-to-date sales exceeded 5,000 units following its initial delivery to customers in December 2021
- Ford Model e Technology launched to accelerate development of Ford’s EV business in China and consists of centers of excellence for electric propulsion engineering, digital experience and ADAS
