TAIPEI, Taiwan, 2 June 2014 – As the all-new Ford Mustang prepares for its global launch in 2015, Ford is giving Taiwanese consumers their first glimpse of the iconic pony car at Computex 2014 in Taipei.
Building on 50 years of continuous production, the all-new Ford Mustang will set a new standard for performance and refinement in Taiwan and other markets across Asia Pacific when it goes on sale in 2015.
“Put simply, the Ford Mustang looks, feels and sounds like no other car out there. It continues to resonate with people after 50 years because it’s a powerful symbol of hope, confidence and optimism,” said Trevor Worthington, vice president, Product Development, Ford Asia Pacific. “The all-new Ford Mustang takes that heritage to new heights, with an incredible blend of power, design and technology. We’re thrilled to bring it to Taiwan as part of a concerted rollout across the globe.”
Beyond the nine million Mustangs that have been sold since 1964, the Ford Mustang has made an enormous impression on popular culture, with thousands of appearances in movies, television, music and video games. With the all-new Ford Mustang, Ford is taking the world’s original fastback global for the first time.
Smartest pony in the stable
The next generation of Ford’s iconic pony car is the smartest Mustang to date, featuring innovative technologies that provide drivers with unmatched real-time information, performance control and in-car connectivity. Whether during a daily commute or a weekend of performance driving at the track, Ford’s cutting-edge features enhance the driving experience for everyone.
Ford’s award-winning SYNC ® connectivity system allows drivers to control navigation systems, the entertainment console, make and receive phone calls and control other features hands-free using SYNC voice controls.
“The all-new Ford Mustang combines an unprecedented amount of technology with classic Mustang power,” said Worthington. “This enhances every aspect of driving, whether you’re listening to music, changing the radio station, optimizing your car for track driving or adjusting it for different road conditions. This car does it all.”
Instead of a one-size-fits-all technology approach to enhanced driving features, the all-new Mustang will give drivers the ability to tune their car to driving style and road conditions. Boasting Selectable Drive Modes, drivers can quickly and easily adjust throttle response, shift control, steering effort and stability control settings by toggling between four pre-set driving modes: normal, snow-wet, sport or track.
Beyond the pre-set options, drivers can tweak and fine-tune the steering effort separately with standard, comfort and sport settings as they desire. The all-new Ford Mustang also comes standard with Ford’s new stability control system, which can be set to the less intrusive sport mode or switched off entirely for track use.
Other standard and available smart technology features of the all-new Ford Mustang include:
· MyKey®: Gives parents the option of tailoring the Mustang for younger drivers in the family, including limiting top speed and audio volume, preventing driver-assist technologies from being disabled, and increasing alerts for safety belt use and low fuel warnings
· Blind Spot Information System with cross-traffic alert: Provides alerts of other vehicles when changing lanes or leaving a parking space, and now includes doppler effect radar sensors for improved sensitivity and more effective resistance to false alerts
· Adaptive cruise control and collision warning with brake support: Adjusts vehicle speed automatically to help ensure a safe following distance. When a collision may be imminent, the system pre-charges the brakes and boosts the active brake assist sensitivity
· Intelligent Access with push-button start: Allows the doors and trunk to be unlocked without the key, and starting the car is as simple as pushing a button on the center console. Up to three key fobs can be programmed to remember seat and mirror positions
· Track Apps: Provides instant in-car access to driving statistics, including acceleration, braking and handling performance data on the instrument screen
· Launch control: Enables maximum and consistent acceleration for track driving by managing engine speed and brakes
· Individual tire pressure monitoring: Instrument cluster display provides tire pressure readings for each tire, available for the first time in a Ford
· Rear view camera: Now standard on all Mustangs
Details on market-specific features will be confirmed closer to launch.
A classic look, redesigned
The Mustang’s revamped look combines five decades of key design elements – including a long sculpted hood and a short rear deck – with a contemporary execution. The car has a lower, wider stance, tri-bar taillamps, steeply sloped windshield and rear glass, and the signature shark-bite front fascia and trapezoidal grille.
“The all-new Ford Mustang makes an impression right out of the gate with its unique blend of new and old. The design draws from the car’s heritage, but its new look clearly marks it as a member of Ford’s modern family of vehicles,” said Worthington.
The interior design was executed with the highest level of craftsmanship ever applied to a Mustang. The aviation-inspired cockpit clearly displays vehicle information with large, clear instruments, while improved ergonomics and tactile switches allow for greater control. The vehicle’s added width and new independent rear suspension make for a much roomier cabin, and the redesigned trunk is large enough to hold two golf bags.
The Mustang experience
The entire Mustang package – the way it looks, the way it feels on the road and the way it sounds – makes drivers want to get in and hit the road. In Asia Pacific, the Mustang will come with two engine options: an upgraded 5.0-liter V8 and an all-new 2.3-liter Ford EcoBoost.
The Mustang EcoBoost utilizes turbocharging, direct injection and variable cam timing to deliver all the power expected in a Mustang with projected segment-leading fuel efficiency. The engine has a projected output of more than 305 horsepower and 300 lb.-ft. of torque.
Ford’s engineering team also equipped the all-new Mustang with new front and rear suspension systems At the front end, a new perimeter subframe provides a better foundation for more predictable wheel control, delivering enhanced handling, steering and ride.
At the rear is an all-new integral-link independent rear suspension for improved high-performance driving. The new aluminum rear knuckles contributes to reduced unsprung mass for improved ride and handling.
The all-new Ford Mustang will be on display at Computex, which takes place at the TWTC Nangang Exhibition Hall in Taipei from June 3-7, 2014. The car will go on sale in Taiwan in 2015.
