- Experienced China leader to oversee China strategy and key relationships, Taiwan operations
- Move complements elevation of China reporting to AP president Dave Schoch
DEARBORN, Mich., June 6, 2016 – Ford Motor Company today is announcing that Alvin Liu has been named vice chairman of Ford Greater China in addition to his current duties as vice president Legal & Government Affairs as it elevates the reporting of its China operations and expands its business model to be both an auto and mobility company.
Also announced today, direct leadership of Ford’s operations in China – including the Ford China import business as well as Ford’s passenger car joint venture Changan Ford and commercial vecle joint venture Jiangling Motors Corporation – will be by Dave Schoch, group vice president and president of Asia Pacific. Schoch adds the title of chairman and chief executive officer, Ford China.
In his new role, Liu is responsible for partnering with Schoch on key strategies in China as well as leading the company’s most critical China relationships including government stakeholders and joint venture partners. Liu also will oversee Ford’s Taiwan operations, Ford Lio Ho.
“Our growth in China has been extraordinary over the last five years and Alvin has been a big part of that growth,” said Schoch. “As our business moves into the next stage, Alvin’s leadership in terms of strategic direction and key relationships will be critical to our success.”
This move is effective immediately.
Liu, 58, joined Ford in 2001 as legal counsel in the company’s headquarters in Dearborn, Mich. and has served in a variety of roles globally including vice president and general counsel for Ford China operations. Before joining Ford, Liu served in a number of roles in the Office of General Counsel of Chrysler Corporation and then DaimlerChrysler AG. His assignments included serving as an international legal counsel for Asia and China, and as a member of DaimlerChrysler’s mergers and acquisition group based in Germany. Between 1993 and 1995, Liu was in private law practice in the US.
Liu was born in Liaoning Province, China. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Shenyang Normal University in Shenyang, Liaoning Province, China, and went on to earn his master’s degree in Economics and his Juris Doctor from Marquette University.
