Ford is giving Chinese consumers their first chance to take a close look at the all-new Mustang at Auto China 2014, as the world’s original pony car prepares for its arrival in the world’s largest auto market.

Already a global icon, the all-new Ford Mustang will bring world-class levels of performance and refinement to multiple markets in the Asia Pacific region, including China, when it goes on sale in 2015.

“The Mustang really is more than a car. Building upon a 50-year heritage, it’s an inspiring symbol of optimism and confidence,” said John Lawler, chairman and CEO of Ford China. “The all-new Mustang takes that heritage to the next level with a stunning and sleek design, innovative technologies and, of course, world-class power. We’re delighted to be bringing it to China, where it will further strengthen our product lineup, and help to fulfill our commitment to launch 15 new vehicles in China by 2015.”

Ford has sold more than nine million Mustangs since its first launch in 1964. Over 50 years of continuous production, the Mustang has made thousands of appearances in film, television, music and video games. With the all-new 2015 Mustang, Ford is taking the car global for the first time.

All-new profile, yet unmistakably Mustang

The clean-sheet design of the all-new Mustang evokes the essential character of the nameplate, retaining key design elements – including the long sculpted hood and short rear deck of the classic Mustangs – but with a contemporary execution that clearly marks it as a member of Ford’s modern family of vehicles.

Several key design features define the all-new Mustang, including:

  • A lower, wider stance with a reduction in roof height, and wider rear fenders and track
  • Sleek profile enabled by a steeply sloped windshield and rear glass
  • Three-dimensional, tri-bar taillamps
  • Contemporary execution of the iconic car’s signature shark-bite front fascia and trapezoidal grille

Inside, drivers will find information and controls all readily accessible in the aviation-inspired cockpit, which is executed with a level of materials and craftsmanship never before achieved in a Mustang. Large, clear instrumentation puts vehicle information directly in front of the driver in the roomier cabin, while improved ergonomics and tactile switches and knobs provide better control.

The vehicle’s added width and a new independent rear suspension contribute to improved interior space for passengers, and a more usefully shaped trunk can accommodate two golf bags.

The Mustang’s sleek new design will be complemented by one of two engines in China. An upgraded 5.0-liter V8 engine is joined by an all-new 2.3-liter Ford EcoBoost engine that uses advanced features like an integrated exhaust manifold, twin-scroll turbocharger, dual cooling circuits and low-friction internals to deliver outstanding power combined with great fuel efficiency.

Ford engineers equipped the all-new Mustang with new front and rear suspension systems. At the front, a new perimeter subframe helps to stiffen the structure while reducing mass, providing a better foundation for more predictable wheel control that benefits handling, steering and ride.

At the rear is an all-new integral-link independent rear suspension. Engineers specifically modified and tuned the Mustang’s geometry, springs, dampers, and bushings, and included new aluminum rear knuckles to help reduce unsprung mass for improved ride and handling.

Smarter technologies

The all-new Mustang features a range of innovative technologies providing drivers with enhanced information, control, and connectivity when they want it.

Ford’s award-winning SYNC connectivity system allows drivers to control their in-car  entertainment using voice commands, keeping their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road. Premium features like navigation, push button start, passive entry, power folding mirrors, and a rear camera are standard on the all-new Mustang to enhance the driving experience.

Putting drivers in greater control of the open road, Selectable Drive Modes (SDM), allow  them to easily toggle between normal, snow/wet, sport and track modes to quickly adjust steering effort, engine response, and transmission and electronic stability control settings. And MyColor gauges and ambient lighting help drivers to customize the vehicle’s interior lighting color to their preferences.

“The all-new Ford Mustang is a one-of-a-kind vehicle that will put Chinese enthusiasts in control of their dreams on the open road,” said Lawler. “With advanced technologies, an iconic design and world-class power, it truly sets a new standard.”
