COLOGNE, Germany, June 18, 2014 – The new Fiesta Red Edition and Fiesta Black Edition feature striking two-tone styling that reflects the photography trend for “colour popping” – drawing attention to a specific detail with vivid colour – and takes inspiration from contrasting colour trends seen in sectors from fashion to consumer electronics.
Encouraged by a growing demand for designs with strong visual impact, Ford’s vehicle personalisation team has delivered a head-turning twist on the Fiesta’s exterior and interior with contrasting red and black colour schemes delivering two distinctive vehicles with visibly different characters.
The new Ford Fiesta Red Edition and Fiesta Black Edition models are designed to offer dynamic new styling and performance for Fiesta customers with a passion for style and an eye for quality and detail.
“Striking two-tone designs are really in vogue and it’s a wider cultural trend that you can see in everything from smartphone covers to men’s shoes, which are increasingly offered in traditional dark colours but with bold, contrasting lining or stitching,” said John McLeod, chief designer, Vehicle Personalisation, Ford of Europe. “Customer desire for more vibrant, expressive styling is great news for designers; it gives the chance to really explore the boundaries and exploit a vehicle’s design.”
The two bold new Fiesta models – Race Red with black roof and Panther Black with red roof – also feature contrasting colours for the mirrors, front bumper, and around the grille.
The vehicle personalisation team selected red and black from a wide range of possible colour blends because of the combination’s traditional association with sportiness – a renowned Fiesta character trait further enhanced for the Fiesta Red and Black Editions with a sport suspension set-up, tuned Electronic Power Assisted Steering and the debut of a 140 PS version of Ford’s multi-award-winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine.
For both the Fiesta Red Edition and Fiesta Black Edition the contrasting roof colour is painted to deliver a consistent and higher quality gloss finish than can be achieved using a foil applique or sticker.
“The roof contrast really accentuates the Fiesta design by highlighting the flow through the front pillars and over the top of the car,” McLeod said.
The contrast theme is carried through the interior, where both models feature gloss black centre stack and door handles; black leather sports steering wheel and gear lever gaiter with red stitching; black floor mats with red stitching; and Charcoal black sport seats with contrasting red stitching.
“Red is traditionally the more sporty colour; it’s very vivid and can really make the lines and details of a car stand out, while black cars tend to be a little more sophisticated and subtle, McLeod said. “However, black provides a more versatile background for strong contrast, so the red details create a truly arresting design. Both cars deliver an execution that’s bold, distinctive and contemporary.”
Both models feature a bodykit with sports bumpers, side skirts and rear spoiler, and are available as 3-door only equipped with Panther Black 16-inch or optional 17-inch alloy wheels.
The Fiesta Red Edition and Fiesta Black Edition models go on sale later this year.
