  • Ford’s European sales increased by 6.4 percent in the first seven months of 2014 compared to the same period last year; July sales rose 5 percent
  • Total vehicle market share for July and year-to-date was 7.9 percent
  • Ford volume growth in line with industry, but outperforming industry in retail sales
  • Best July retail sales and market share since 2010
  • Best July year-to-date commercial vehicle sales since 2008; best CV share since 1997
  • 53 percent of Ford sales year-to-date were all-new or significantly freshened vehicles
  • New Focus and new Mondeo launching later this year

COLOGNE, Germany, Aug. 19, 2014 – Ford Motor Company sales in Europe rose 6.4 percent in the first seven months of 2014 on the strength of newly introduced cars and commercials vehicles.

So far this year, Ford has sold 700,800 vehicles* in Europe, more than half of which are new or significantly refreshed since end 2012. In July, Ford sold 95,200 vehicles*, a year-over-year increase of 5 percent. Ford’s market share was 7.9 percent for both July and year-to-date, about the same level as a year ago.

Whilst Ford’s sales growth was broadly in line with the overall new car market in Europe, Ford outperformed the industry in the higher quality sales channels such as retail and commercial vehicle sales. Ford’s retail sales (sales to private customers) in its five largest European markets rose 8 percent, boosting Ford’s retail share by 0.5 percentage points to 8.4 percent in July, the highest level since 2010.

“Our decision to increase investment in new cars and commercials vehicles is paying off,” said Roelant de Waard, vice president, Marketing, Sales and Service, Ford of Europe. “We are building momentum and winning new customers, and that will accelerate when we launch new Ford Focus and new Ford Mondeo later this year.”

Ford’s commercial vehicle sales rose 23.9 percent in July and are up 12.5 percent year-to-date. Year to date, Ford of Europe’s commercial vehicle share is up 0.6 percentage points to 10.7 percent year-to-date – the highest July year-to-date share in 17 years. Transit remains the top-selling nameplate in the combined one- and two-tonne commercial vehicle segment in Europe.*

Sales of the Transit Custom more than doubled, making it Ford’s fifth best-selling model behind the Fiesta, Focus, C-MAX and Kuga. In addition, the Kuga sports utility vehicle was again one of the strongest performers in the Ford vehicle range, with sales increasing more than 30 percent in the first seven months of the year.

“The SUV segment of the market continues to grow at a faster pace than the rest of the industry. With strong vehicles such as the Kuga and the smaller EcoSport sub-compact SUV, plus the larger all-new Ford Edge coming next year, Ford is well-positioned to take advantage of the growth potential in the SUV segment,” de Waard said.

* Effective January 2014, Ford of Europe reports its sales for the 20 European main markets where it is represented through National Sales Companies. Previously, Ford referenced 19 countries. Romania has been added as the 20th market. Ford of Europe also has introduced a market share for the total of the 50 European markets within which it operates. A detailed list of markets is below.
