Ford August Sales Highest Since 2007; Mustang Hits 20,000 Orders And Is Germany’s Best-Selling Sports Car – Again!

  • Ford sales volume in August at 74,800 at highest level since August 2007 in its European 20 traditional markets*; year-to-date sales in the Europe 20 at 898,000 vehicles is the best since 2009
  • Ford market share in August down 0.3 ppt at 7.6% in the Euro 20; year-to-date market share marginally down by 0.1 ppt at 7.9%

  • High series models: Increase in sales of Ford Titanium and other high series models including Mondeo Vignale, Fiesta ST, Focus ST, Fiesta and Focus Red/Black Editions accounted for more than 59% of all Ford passenger car sales year-to-date

COLOGNE, Germany, Sept. 12, 2016 – Sales of Ford vehicles in August reached their highest level since 2007 in its 20 traditional European markets with 74,800 vehicles sold, up 5,900 units from August 2015. Ford’s year-to-date sales in the same markets accounted for 898,000 vehicles, up 59,600 compared with the same period last year.

Ford market share in August in the Europe 20 markets was down 0.3 of a percentage point at 7.6 percent, while market share for the first eight months of the year was marginally down by 0.1 of a percentage point at 7.9 percent.

Across all of Ford’s 50 markets in Europe, sales volume was up 2,000 at 88,600 in August, and up 55,400 to 1,013,200 year-to-date– exceeding the one million mark one month earlier than last year. Ford market share in these markets was down 0.3 of a percentage point to 7.3 percent in August, but up 0.1 of a percentage point to 7.7 percent year-to-date.

“We’re pleased with our performance in August, especially as it is historically a quieter month for the industry as customers wait for the registration plate change in September in the UK when a very significant percentage of annual sales goes through our dealerships,” said Roelant de Waard, vice president, Marketing, Sales and Service, Ford of Europe.

“Our SUV sales grew by more than 71 percent in August, and are up nearly 39 percent on the year thanks to best-ever August month sales for Ford Kuga, a doubling of Ford EcoSport sales, and 700 Ford Edge sales in its first full month of sales.”

Ford sales in the higher value retail and fleets sales channels were 78 percent in August – six percentage points better than the industry average – and 74 percent since the start of the year, five percentage points better than the industry.

Commercial vehicles:
Ford was Europe’s No. 1 commercial vehicle brand yet again in August and year-to-date in its European 20 markets, with sales up 15.3 percent to 20,866 vehicles. Ford’s commercial vehicle sales so far this year have risen by 17.6 percent, with almost 207,500 vehicles sold. The Ranger enjoyed its best August and year-to-date sales since launch, and remains Europe’s No.1 top-selling pickup. More than 22,900 Rangers have been sold so far this year, and it currently has a 26.3 percent share of its segment.

SUVs:
Ford sold 122,700 SUVs in the first eight months of 2016, almost a 39 percent improvement on the same period last year. EcoSport compact SUV sales doubled in August to 3,200, with more than 38,000 sold so far this year. Ford Kuga medium SUV sales in August grew by 2,500 units to 7,800, and sales for the year so far are nearly 81,000. Edge customer orders in August exceeded 1,100, and 700 of Ford’s new large SUV were delivered to customers across Europe.

Performance cars:
Combined sales of Ford’s performance line-up – Fiesta ST, Focus ST, Focus ST diesel, Focus RS and Mustang – were up 51 percent in August at 2,258 units sold. For the year-to-date, close to 31,000 Ford performance cars have been sold – 98 percent up on 2015. Focus RS customer orders have now exceeded 8,800 since launch. Mustang customer orders have exceeded 20,000 since the car was launched late in 2015. Following similar success in March, Mustang beat its rivals to become Germany’s No.1 top-selling sports car in August, according to data published by the German Federal Motor Transport Authority, the KBA.

High Specification model sales:
Sales of higher specification Ford models continue to be strong in August and year-to-date. Titanium specification model sales were more than 41 percent of car sales in August, marginally up on August 2015, for the first eight months had increased by in excess of 3 percentage points to 41 percent.

Ford’s high series models – Titanium specification models, Mondeo Vignale, Fiesta ST, Focus ST petrol and diesel, and Fiesta and Focus Red/Black Editions – accounted for 59 percent of car sales in August, up nearly two percentage points. Year-to-date, high series model sales have increased by two percentage points to 59 percent.
