Experimental Reflective Paint of Team Fordzilla P1 Racer Gives Gamers Another Way to See Themselves in it

Experimental chrome orange paint signals the latest evolution of the Team Fordzilla P1 race car

The latest evolution of the Team Fordzilla P1 race car showcases a new one-off paint designed to reflect the gamers who were instrumental in its creation, as well as the ethos of the Team Fordzilla P1; to keep pushing boundaries.

The new look will be unveiled at an event in Alkmaar hosted by Ford Netherlands and esports hosts Racesquare, where gamers will not only get to see themselves in the reflective paint, but also have the chance to take a seat inside the full-scale race car that doubles as a gaming simulator and fully-fledged livestreaming platform.

The team behind the latest look used an experimental process that involved a lot of trial and error to achieve a finish that has proven to be illusive until now. The result of the many trials is a reflective orange paint finish that interacts with light and the surroundings in an almost unreal way.

This is the fifth colour change for the ever-evolving project, having been originally unveiled in white before wearing a fluorescent yellow scheme for its debut as a racing simulator. There are currently no plans to use this special paint finish on Ford production vehicles.

Evolution of the P1 racer

From its conception the P1 project sought to push boundaries, being the first vehicle created in collaboration between designers from an automaker and the gaming community. Over 250,000 votes on Twitter resulted in the final design by Arturo Ariño and the interior vision of Robert Engelman, both Ford designers.

Revealed initially in the summer of 2020, just three months later Ford produced a full-scale model of the vehicle in a live stream.

A couple of months later it attended the Goodwood Festival of Speed with all new livery celebrating the 55th anniversary of Ford’s famous 1-2-3 victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

At gamescom 2021, P1 evolved once again as it became the ultimate gaming simulator. Then at Gamergy in Madrid later that year streaming technologies were built into it to enable live broadcasting direct from car. With more plans in the pipeline, the evolution of the P1 race car is not finished yet.

Quotes

“The paint was an experimental process we wanted to try, and what better vehicle than the Team Fordzilla P1 racer; a car that’s been breaking new ground since its inception. The reflections this finish captures are really fun and hopefully gamers will enjoy trying to capture themselves in it, as well as the nod to its Netherlands debut with the orange finish.”
