Ford’s All-Electric Explorer Begins a New Adventure with Disney and Lucasfilm’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

Ford is embarking on its greatest adventure to date, as the new all-electric Explorer 1 teams up with this summer’s blockbuster, Disney and Lucasfilm’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, for its latest advertising campaign.

Referencing the iconic imagery and celebrated music from the legendary film franchise, the new campaign features the mid-sized crossover embarking on a cross-continental adventure, with a cameo from a very familiar-looking silhouette.

The campaign launched on June 12 ahead of the European cinema release dates, featuring the adventures of the Explorer across TV, social, digital, radio and out-of-home advertising in selected European countries.

The 60-second television commercial can be viewed here:

The fifth and final instalment of the Indiana Jones franchise stars Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones, and also features Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen and Antonio Banderas in a globe-trotting cinematic adventure.

The partnership was created to leverage the history and heritage of the film franchise, featuring the ultimate explorer Indiana Jones, in order to create awareness of Ford’s new Explorer.

The Explorer builds on generations of global heritage, reinvented for Europe as an all-electric mid-sized crossover. Combining German engineering with striking American style to deliver an adventure-ready design with an outstanding digital experience, it provides all-electric power and the ability to fast charge from 10 to 80 per cent in just 25 minutes. 2

Highlights include the SYNC Move 3 adjustable 15-inch centre touchscreen that can be raised and lowered through an arc of more than 30 degrees, and conceal or reveal the My Private Locker storage – perfect for keeping treasure maps away from prying eyes. The 17-litre MegaConsole is large enough to hold a 15-inch laptop, or the spoils of an adventure.

To demonstrate its abilities, travel adventure influencer Lexie Alford – known to millions online as Lexie Limitless – will undertake a round-the-world journey in an all-electric Ford Explorer later this year.

Reservations are now being accepted for the Explorer, with delivery dates in 2024.

“Indiana Jones is the most iconic American explorer in cinema, so the opportunity to partner with his latest on-screen adventure using our own iconic Explorer was a perfect fit. Making its debut here in Europe, and designed for Europe, the new Explorer will not only be electric, but is sure to be as electrifying an adventure for customers as the latest movie will be for cinema-goers.”

Martin Sander, general manager, Ford Model e, Europe

“Indiana Jones is a character who is rebellious, restless and uncompromising, which is exactly the spirit we are channelling with our new all-electric crossover. Want to feel like an explorer? Get the EV that says Explorer on the front.”

Pete Zillig, director of Marketing, Ford Europe

“We are really excited for the coming together of our all Electric and the ultimate Explorer, Indiana Jones. This partnership between Ford and Indiana Jones brings out the best of our American heritage and Adventurous Spirit of the brand.”

Jen Meyer, head of Media and Partnerships, Ford Europe

“This collaboration with Ford is a great fit on so many levels, and showcases how our world-class storytelling can work hard for flagship brands here in EMEA. Both brands stand for adventurous spirit and by linking the two iconic explorers – Ford’s new all-electric and Indiana Jones himself – we’ve created a campaign that will really catch the eye with consumers across the region.”

Owen Dommel, director of Partnerships and Promotions, Walt Disney Studios EMEA
