Stuart Southgate

Stuart Southgate is appointed Director Sustainability, Environmental and Safety Engineering, Ford of Europe effective Oct 1, 2019.

In this role Southgate is responsible for a wide range of vehicle compliance matters, including developing new vehicle regulations, homologating vehicles with Government Authorities, and managing the ongoing environmental and safety compliance of vehicles in the field.

Additionally, Southgate is responsible for managing the environmental compliance of facilities, including achieving both sustainability targets and policy, and ensuring effective remediation of legacy sites within Ford of Europe.

Prior to this Southgate was Global Director, Vehicle Homologation & Compliance, a position he held from 2014 to 2019. Earlier he served as Director, Automotive Safety Office Ford of Europe and also held the Chairmanship of the ACEA Passenger Car Safety group. Additionally, he has represented Ford and European industry in a number of global external regulatory development meetings.

Southgate joined Ford in 1981 as technician apprentice and proceeded to complete an Engineers BA in Engineers & Technologies followed by an MSc in Engineering and Management. He started his career in Body Engineering specialising in Vehicle Crash and Occupant Protection and developed a broad engineering knowledge from clay feasibility in design studio through to working in-plant with resident engineers.

Stuart was born in Essex, UK, in 1965 and has a daughter. He likes cooking and scuba diving.
