FORD ATHLETE AMBASSADORS SET TO ‘PLAY THEIR PART’ AT GLASGOW 2014

Ford, the Official Automotive Partner of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, today named the first athlete ambassadors who will be supporting its newly-launched #PlayYourPart campaign.

The team includes London 2012 Great Britain Olympian and Team Scotland swimmer, Hannah Miley; Katie Kirk, Northern Ireland track athlete and Welsh “Paralympic Sportsman of the Year”, and shot put and discus champion, Aled Davies. England gymnast, Kristian Thomas and Scottish track athlete, Eilish McColgan, whose mother, Liz McColgan, won gold in the 1986 Edinburgh Games, also add to the Ford ambassador team strength.

The athletes will support Ford’s #PlayYourPart campaign, which promotes participation, interaction and support through Social Media during the Games build-up and throughout the event.

In addition, Ford is delighted that fellow Team Scotland athletes, cyclist Callum Skinner and boxer, Lewis Benson will join the campaign, alongside Team England netballer, Sasha Corbin.

Anthony Ireson, Marketing Director, Ford of Britain, said: “We’re delighted that such a fantastic group of young and promising athletes will be supporting the #PlayYourPart campaign, and cannot wait for the Games to begin.”

Ford is supporting the Games with a wide range of market-leading, energy-efficient vehicles, including the Ford Focus, Ford C-MAX, Ford S-MAX, Ford Galaxy and Ford Tourneo. The importance of delivering a sustainable Games will be reflected by a low CO2 emissions footprint across the fleet. Ford also provided a dedicated fleet of vehicles to support the Glasgow 2014 Queen’s Baton Relay (QBR) during the final leg of its epic 120,000 mile, 248-day international journey.
