Ford Reduces Running Costs and Improves Connectivity for Mondeo, S-MAX and Galaxy with Upgrades Including SYNC 3

  • Ford fine-tunes Mondeo, S‑MAX and Galaxy 2.0-litre TDCi diesel engines to deliver reduced running costs with fuel efficiency and CO2 improvements of up to 7 per cent

COLOGNE, Germany, July 14, 2016 – Ford has further enhanced the popular Mondeo, S-MAX and Galaxy models to deliver improved fuel efficiency and lower CO2 emissions for reduced running costs.

Ford engineers have fine-tuned engine software for Mondeo four-door, five-door and wagon models, S-MAX sports activity vehicles and Galaxy people mover models powered by Ford’s 150 PS or 180 PS 2.0-litre TDCi diesel engines with six-speed PowerShift automatic transmission and front-wheel drive to deliver CO2 reductions of up to 7 per cent.*

Ford’s intuitive SYNC 3 communications and entertainment system now is offered for Mondeo, S-MAX, Galaxy and Mustang. The technology also will later this year be introduced on the all-new Ford Edge SUV.

Keyless entry technology, which automatically activates and deactivates central locking in the presence of the key fob, is now offered as standard for Mondeo, S-MAX and Galaxy models in Titanium specification.

Optimised fuel efficiency
Ford has fine-tuned the software that controls fuel delivery and combustion for the Ford Mondeo’s 150 PS and 180 PS 2.0‑litre TDCi diesel engines, enabling models equipped with PowerShift transmission and front-wheel drive to offer from 4.6 l/100 km fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions reduced by 5 g/km to 120 g/km.

S-MAX models featuring the same powertrain now offer from 5.0 l/100 km fuel efficiency with CO2 emissions reduced by up to 10 g/km to 129 g/km.

Galaxy models featuring the same powertrain now offer from 5.2 l/100 km fuel efficiency with CO2 emissions reduced by 5 g/km to 134 g/km.

Ford’s enhanced 2.0-litre TDCi diesel engine with single variable geometry turbocharger technology features optimised engine block, cylinder head and fuel injection designs, and a lean NOX trap exhaust after-treatment system for cleaner emissions.

Ford also offers Mondeo, S-MAX and Galaxy with a powerful new 210 PS 2.0-litre TDCi bi-turbo diesel engine that delivers enhanced responsiveness and 450 Nm of torque from 2,000 rpm.
Petrol engine options include Ford’s new fuel-efficient 160 PS 1.5-litre EcoBoost and 240 PS 2.0-litre EcoBoost.

Sophisticated technology
Ford’s Mondeo, S-MAX and Galaxy – alongside the Ford Mustang – are now available to order with Ford’s new SYNC 3 communications and entertainment system.

SYNC 3 delivers faster performance, simplified commands, and supports five additional languages. Simply by pushing a button and saying “I need a coffee,” “I need petrol,” and “I need to park,” drivers can locate nearby cafés, petrol stations or car parks, and find train stations, airports, and hotels.

Drivers also can operate SYNC 3’s 8-inch touchscreen with pinch and swipe gestures. iPhone users can activate Apple CarPlay, and Android™ users can activate Android Auto™, two interfaces built specifically for those types of smartphones. Software can be updated over-the-air via Wi-Fi.

SYNC 3 also delivers SYNC AppLink for customers, enabling voice-activation from the driver’s seat of a range of smartphone apps that for the first time now includes:

  • MyBoxMan – a collaborative delivery platform
  • HearMeOut – a social network where you can share your voice and listen to your friends talk
  • AccuWeather – enabling users to stay connected to the latest weather conditions
  • Cadena SER – enabling users to listen to Cadena SER radio station programs
  • Los 40 Principales – a music radio network

Ford’s Keyless Entry technology, which detects the presence of the key fob to enable owners to access their vehicle while the key fob remains in their pocket, purse or bag, now is offered as standard on Mondeo, S-MAX and Galaxy models in Titanium specification. Sales of top of the standard range Titanium specification models were up 5 percentage points in May this year, in Ford’s European 22 traditional markets,** from 36 per cent of sales, to 41 per cent.
