Ford of Europe increased sales and gained market share in 2014 on strong demand for its new cars and commercial vehicles.

Ford strengthened its UK market lead in 2014 while recording 38 consecutive years of car sales leadership and 49 years of UK commercial vehicle (CV) sales leadership. Ford’s sales lead increased in all sectors: total vehicle, cars and commercial vehicles.

Over half of UK executives in one of the largest “user chooser” market segments are eager for the all-new Ford Mondeo’s arrival. Sewells Intelligence questioned over 2,200 “user chooser” company car drivers, the largest survey of its kind. Over half of those in the lower/upper medium vehicle sector* said that they would definitely or be likely to consider the Ford Mondeo as their next company car.

Ford’s vehicle sales in its 20 traditional European markets increased by 7.1 percent from January through November, in an industry that grew 5.7 percent. Year-to-date, Ford has sold 1,075,000 vehicles, achieving a market share of 8.0 percent, up 0.1 percentage point over the same period last year. November sales were 84,500, just 200 units lower than November last year, leading to a market share of 7.5 percent, down by 0.1 percentage point.

Ford’s first hybrid to be built and sold in Europe has been awarded a Next Green Car Award. Next Green Car praised the all-new Mondeo Hybrid, stating: “Well done to Ford for bringing its hybrid know-how to the UK market. Ford has produced its three millionth, small capacity low carbon diesel engine in Europe. The milestone 1.5-litre TDCi, part of a new family of Euro Stage VI-compliant Ford engines, was manufactured at Ford’s global diesel engineering centre of excellence, Dagenham Diesel Assembly Plant, in the U.K.

UK market leader Ford hit record registration numbers in the bumper September month, when sales increase significantly due to the registration plate change. Ford’s commercial vehicle (CV) sales in September were the best ever for a single month and Ford total vehicle sales approached 70,000 – the highest since 2007.
