May Highlights:
Ford Motor Company of Canada, Ltd. led the industry in sales in May, driven by record-setting increases in utility and hybrid vehicles. |
Utility vehicle sales were up 11 per cent in May, led by the best month of May on record for the Escape and the best month of sales ever for the Explorer, which increased 16 per cent and 14 per cent respectively. Sales of the Oakville-built Ford Flex and Edge were up one per cent and seven per cent respectively.
Ford continues to see strength in hybrid vehicle sales with an overall increase of 28 per cent. The Ford Fusion Hybrid increased seven per cent and sales of C-MAX rose 21 per cent. It was also the best May on record for the Lincoln MKZ Hybrid.
“We are pleased to see sales increases for our utility vehicle lineup in a record-setting segment,” said Dianne Craig, president and CEO, Ford Motor Company of Canada, Ltd. “Additionally, we’re thrilled to have seen the first sale of the new 2015 Lincoln MKC last month. The Lincoln brand continues to build momentum and the all-new MKC is an incredible opportunity to introduce Lincoln to a new group of consumers."
Overall Lincoln sales rose two per cent in May, led by strong sales of the MKT, which jumped 45 per cent. Additionally, sales of the MKZ increased one per cent and the MKS rose 23 per cent.
Truck sales increased one per cent, driven by F-150, which had its best month of May on record. Sales of the Ford Fiesta jumped 19 per cent, and Mustang rose one per cent in May.
