Ford Issues Safety Recall in Canada for Certain 2011-12 Ford F-150 3.5L GTDI Vehicles to Replace Electric Vacuum Pumps
DEARBORN, Mich., May 9, 2017 – Ford Motor Company is issuing a safety recall in Canada for approximately 43,600 2011-12 Ford F-150 3.5L GTDI vehicles to replace electric vacuum pumps that may have reduced pump performance due to internal corrosion caused by moisture entry through the engine vacuum harness.
If corrosion in the supplemental brake vacuum pump progresses, drivers may experience momentary changes in brake pedal feel or effort when the vehicle is first started, however brake pedal travel is not affected and typical driver brake pedal pressure will stop the vehicle. A vehicle with this condition could result in unexpected extended stopping distance on the first brake application after a cold start, increasing the risk of a low speed crash.
Ford is aware of 11 accident reports and no injuries associated with this issue.
Affected vehicles are 2011-12 Ford F-150 3.5L GTDI vehicles built at Dearborn Assembly Plant from Aug. 4, 2010 to Oct., 25, 2012 and at Kansas City Assembly Plant from Oct. 25, 2010 to Aug. 20, 2012.
The recall involves approximately 43,600 vehicles located in Canada. The Ford reference number for this recall is 17S13.
Dealers will replace the supplemental electric brake vacuum pump and vacuum harness at no cost to the customer.
