Soundbites: All-New Ford Mustang
The next chapter in the life of the iconic pony car began today as the all-new Ford Mustang was simultaneously revealed around the globe in six cities on four continents. Dave Pericak (Pair-ah-sack), chief engineer of Mustang, says this legend is the only American sports car that has been around for 50 consecutive years, and he’s looking forward to the next 50.
“It’s a big deal to not only to our company as it’s an icon, but also America in general and it represents what a lot of Americans cherish which is the freedom, and the dream of being different and being unique and so I think the car is extremely important for many reasons, and being a part of setting up the next generation in the next 50 years is just an awesome experience.” :19 sec.
Pericak says this 2015 Mustang is an all-new car.
“We didn’t originally start out as this being all-new, but it is now an all-new car, meaning there is not a piece of sheet metal anywhere, or any other part that hasn’t been touched.” :11 sec.
Pericak defined the changes in its stance and sculpture giving it a distinctive look without losing the iconic Mustang look.
“Some people don’t understand, but they’re looking at proportions, so what they’re looking at is a car that has been lowered, a car that has been widened, a car that has more of a animalistic stance to it. One that is more aggressive and sporty, then where we were, but taking all of the heritage that we have within Mustang and interpreting it in an extremely modern way.” : 19 sec.
Under the Mustang hood, Pericak says the car has the most powerful and fuel efficient engine line-up they have ever had.
“It starts with a 3.7 liter natural V-6 engine, and then we added an EcoBoost, brand new to the EcoBoost family, and new to Mustang obviously, specifically designed and engineered to be in a Mustang and to perform as a Mustang needs to perform. It will have more horse power and torque then the V-6 and then the V-8, which is the mac-daddy the 5.0 liter, taking yet another step forward in its horsepower and performance.” :24 sec.
The 2015 Mustang technology is also more than any previous Mustang has ever had, as explained by Pericak.
“We have intelligent access standard in the car, push-button start is standard. We have blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, heated and cooled seats, you name it we’ve got in this car and we’re even showcasing some new technologies to Ford, like tire-pressure monitoring by location, so you’ll be able to see your tire-pressure in each of the corners, first for Ford and debuting it on the Mustang.” :20 sec.
The way Mustang looks, drives and sounds is key to the visceral experience and according to Pericak there is a model for every consumer.
“We have a steed for every need is what we like to say and each one of our vehicles has its own character, whether it’s the V-6 or the V-8, so believe that we are giving enough options to all of our customers that they will find a Mustang that fits them and will suit their lifestyle.” :14 sec.
The 2015 Mustang will be in production by the fall of next year.
