Notes: Richard Westbrook earned his second p1 qualifying award with Ford Chip Ganassi Racing after first starting on pole two races ago at Watkins Glen. The No. 67 has won the last three IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship races (Laguna Seca, Watkins Glen, Mosport-Canadian Tire Motorsport Park).

The No. 66 ran out of fuel at the end of the session, causing it to be red-flagged. As a penalty, the car’s quickest lap was thrown out.

RICHARD WESTBROOK

THIS FORD GT SEEMS TO WORK WELL EVERYWHERE. LONG COURSES, SHORT COURSES, STREET COURSES: “It does. That was pretty unexpected, actually. I thought we probably had a second-row car. We always seem to go well in qualifying. Then once other things are factored in, like rubber on the track from other classes, the other cars seem to struggle more with that. So we’re doing something right with the Michelin tires and the set-up. I’m hoping that continues. I’m certainly not complaining.”

YOU MUST BE THRILLED WITH THE RUN YOU’RE HAVING. IT’S LIKE THE RACE TRACK MEDIA CENTER WORLD TOUR. WE JUST KEEP SEEING YOU. “I know, isn’t it great? (laughs). I’m not complaining about coming to the media center. If you’re coming to the media center a lot, then you know you’re doing a good thing. It’s Lime Rock, though, so we’ll take it worth a pinch of salt. It’s qualifying and yes, track position is important, but we all know what this race is like and there are more cars than ever. We’ll have to be really patient tomorrow. And, like we said earlier, you have to choose the right Michelin tires. We have the laps with the different compounds, but we can really mix it up here. Five right-handers (turns) and one left-hander, so you can experiment.”
