  • 2019 Ford Edge earned a Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, it aced all six areas of IIHS crash safety testing
  • Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, now standard on Ford Edge with Ford Co-Pilot360, is cited by IIHS as an effective tool to help avoid frontal collisions at speeds up to 25 mph
  • Insurance Institute for Highway Safety also credits performance of the vehicle’s LED projector headlamps with available curve-adaptive technology

DEARBORN, Mich., Nov. 7, 2019 – The redesigned 2019 Ford Edge has earned a Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, capturing “good” ratings across all six aspects of crashworthiness testing. IIHS credits several new safety advances in the 2019 Ford Edge in awarding the vehicle with its Top Safety Pick for midsize SUVs.

“We are really pleased the insurance industry places such a high degree of trust in our 2019 Ford Edge,” said Angela Cascaden, Ford Edge Marketing Manager “It not only offers a number of innovative safety features for passengers, it backs that all up with a host of driver-assist technologies designed to help improve confidence behind the wheel.”

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety cites the vehicle’s body structure for improving its crashworthiness, along with standard front crash prevention features and available LED projector headlamps with curve-adaptive technology built after March 2019.

Edge also scored a top IIHS rating in driver and passenger small overlap front-end collision testing, moderate overlap front impact testing, side impact testing and roof impact crash testing. Edge also received a top rating for the performance of its head restraints and seats.

Ford Co-Pilot360, now standard on Ford Edge, features Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking – front crash prevention technology the agency said “rates superior for its ability to react to an imminent crash with another vehicle.” The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety went on to say that the system helped drivers avoid collisions in both 12 and 25 mph tests.
