Ford CEO Jim Farley I am simply amazed at the utter lack of imagination and the will to make things right in this CEO. Perhaps it would be better if Farley takes Ford out of the continent completely. Simply because his vision doesn't have the balls to compete. As a loyal Ford customer, I am appalled by his statement that he has had enough with "boring cars". Sorry Jim, you made them boring by not keeping up with market and using cheap materials. And of course, wrong planning. Example: both Focus and Kuga share the same platform and interior. Yet made in two different sites. Why? Hyundai makes 3 x models at the same plant in CR. And Focus and Kuga still bring you profits, whereas your EV venture is in the minus. Wake up and make good efficient cars that people want, not what you want to sell to people. Or go and buy all cars yourself! Keeping the stock price up is all you care about. Not what people want, even the loyal customers. What a shame! Keep Ford in the US; but it wont survive for long on trucks alone!

Just writing about the Ford Motor Company #FordPro ecosystem. Totally genius! Commercial vehicles are literally the overlooked, super profitable workhorses of the motor industry, and Ford is now intelligently leveraging that further in the digital and connected world we now all live in—even the white-van-man/woman world. Think of #FordPro as the #Apple ecosystem of the commercial vehicle world. Like choosing an operating system for a phone or computer, the likelihood is you stick by that and build up an entire ecosystem around it and constantly add things like cloud space, apps, software and hardware etc and never look back. Tie a thousand-plus fleet customers into your customer base, keep them happy with maximum uptime and minimum downtime while seeing them return for more and those clients are unlikely to jump ship to another OEM once it's fleet replacement time, in what previously was a fairly homogeneous part of the motor industry with little product differentiation from product-to-product. Part of the design process includes being emphatic with what our customer wants and needs. This can only be achieved by having a strong communication with them and/or becoming a customer yourself. Unexpected failure is an essential source of innovation opportunities. Everyone who knows the Ford Edsel knows it as the biggest new-car failure in automotive history. However, what very few people know, is that this failure was the foundation for much of the company's later success. The Edsel was the most carefully designed car to that point in American automotive history with the intent for Ford to compete with General Motors. When it bombed, despite all the planning, market research, and design that had gone into it, Ford realized that something was happening in the automobile market that ran counter to the basic assumptions on which everyone else had been designing and marketing cars. No longer was the market segmented primarily by income groups; the new principle of segmentation was lifestyles. Ford's response was the Mustang, which was a major success. It is the car that gave the company a distinct personality and reestablished it as an industry leader. Today in tech history, the first Ford Model A is sold to the public in 1903 (1). Ford sells its first Model A car to Ernst Pfenning of Chicago, Illinois. This was Henry Ford’s 3rd attempt at creating a company that manufactured cars, incorporating just over a month earlier. The initial $28,000 investment was down to $300 before this first Model A was sold. I'm really into cars. They're not just machines; they're my passion. Since I was a kid, I've been obsessed with cars and everything from their cool designs to their engines. My favorites are the Nissan Silvia, Subaru WRX, Mitsubishi Eclipse, and Toyota Yaris, just like the ones in the picture. Each one has its own style and power that I love. Just like how I geek out over programming, I'm super into cars. I love learning about engines, how they work, and all the cool technology behind them. Whether I'm checking out the latest models, going to car shows, or working on my own car, cars are a big part of my life that always makes me happy. It's not just about the speed or the looks; it's about the whole experience. Cars bring people together, whether it's talking with friends about the latest models or bonding with fellow enthusiasts at car meets. What drives you? What are you passionate about? From an early age I always loved cars. This led me to pursue engineering and that led to a fantastic career in part design and product development at Tesla, Zoox and Rivian. The most rewarding thing with these roles was seeing designs that I made, out in real cars parked on the side of the street walking by. I love being able to look at a car and remember having a hand in so many components. My favorite part of the design process is the iterative loops with the design studio team to sort out how to execute a given part or concept. Then taking this and engineering the rest of the parts to make them functional, seeing the first prototype parts and fitting them to a vehicle is such an amazing experience for me. Being able to utilize this background and transform it into my own parts and products is my next step. This is both a bit scary but super exciting but the. creativity and drive to own this for myself now is what is pushing me forward. Being able to be hands on and take this in the direction I want is where I need to be. What sparked this push? I have been doing Turo for the past few years with our Rivians and Tesla. This has been a great experience and I have loved interacting with guests and love how much they enjoyed the experience of EVs. Most folks are new to EVs and have not had much time in one, so the rental experience for them is eye opening for them. While I love being a Turo host, this is fairly hard to scale w/o higher costs. Using the vehicles I have to benchmark and design new products for other enthusiasts like me is a logical extension. This should achieve the scale I am targeting and provide a lot of room for growth. Looking forward to this adventure! Leaning into yourself has unlimited potential!

I'm very passionate about cars. At the beginning of 1998 I was offered two jobs on the same day: a sales & marketing role in an Internet software distribution business, or a sales role in a Ford dealership. The software sales role paid mahoosively better, so it was a no-brainer, but I sometimes wonder where life would have led me if I'd taken the Ford role. I also wonder what is going on in the automotive design departments. There's a horrid trend towards just making every car an SUV because "that's what the market wants". And yet Volvo has recently u-turned on pulling sales of their estates from the UK market because the second they announced it, there was uproar. After all, Volvo is renowned for big, boxy, practical estate cars. Ford, a company with a terrific back catalogue of nostalgia they could draw on, brought out their first electric SUV and called it a Mustang, which flew in the face of everything that Mustang stands for. Despite it being an excellent car, sales reportedly haven't been as strong as they've hoped because, you know, brand does actually matter. They followed that up with their next electric SUV and drew on another old name: Explorer. Which made sense, because the old Explorer was a big, unwieldy SUV back in the day. So, for their next dip into the brand catalogue? They could have called on a whole raft of iconic household names: Cortina, Granada, Zephyr, Sierra, to name just a few. But no. Their new car is, of course, an SUV. And they've called it the Capri. I used to own a Capri. It's in the picture below. Ford Motor Company could have delighted and enticed its audience with a hot new EV sports car. They didn't.
