We’ve got a big update today in the world of electric vehicle routing: Google is rolling out updated capabilities to Google Maps on Android Auto that includes routing that enables preconditioning when navigating to a fast charger, including Tesla Superchargers on our BlueOval Charge Network. Google is rolling out an update for Android Auto that adds improved support for electric vehicles that use the charging standard found at Tesla charging stations. Android Auto 12.9.143804 is currently rolling out in beta with support for the charger in EVs that are “non-Tesla,” as Tesla vehicles do not support Android Auto (at least not without a workaround). With this added support, users can toggle on that their vehicle uses an charger and more easily find charging stations through Google Maps. EVs using Android Automotive won’t be directly affected here, as charging settings are separate on that platform versus the phone-based Android Auto experience. Just this week, approved an adapter for its electric vehicles. This is one example where Google’s implementation of charging options on Android Auto is useful, as drivers can select both NACS, which they can use with the new adapter, as well as the plug built into the vehicle.

Starting on September 18th, General Motors (GM) have been granted access to Tesla electric vehicle (EV) supercharger stations via an update in the GM software. In addition to having access to Tesla’s 17,800 superchargers, GM EV drivers have further been granted accessibility to over 231, 800 public level 2 and DC EV chargers. Following the recent announcement, GM has outlined that customer within the United States need to purchase a GM approved North American Charging Standard (NACS) DC adaptor via the GM mobile app. The NACS DC adaptors allow for non-Tesla vehicles to charge at Tesla charging stations. Day 21 of 100: Adding value to your customer after they have made the purchase So, I’m a little late getting to this today, but I’m still determined to keep the streak going. Ford updated their software and is now offering EV routing for people who purchased F-150 Lightning trucks or Mustang Mach-E electric vehicles. The new update will now show you, in Google Maps, the estimated battery level upon arrival at a charger. It will also display Tesla Superchargers along your route. Ford promised this during CES 2024 and delivered on it this week. From my perspective, I’m focusing on the tech and the customer service. They identified customers who had already purchased these vehicles and improved their quality of life with updates, without requiring them to return to the dealer. They added value after the purchase. I think this is one of the positive things happening in tech today, and I’d love to see more of it. Too often, companies hold features back for new versions that customers need to pay extra for. Creating and releasing a feature to existing customers for free is just a smart move. Ford is also apparently offering Level 2 chargers and covering installation at customer's home through a new initiative they’re calling the "Power Promise." Great, but why update and kill properly working features? In all Ford cars equipped with the Dual Lock function, the application does not work as before. The paradox is that as a customer, "Ford IT specialists" wrote back to me: "In connection with your report, I would like to kindly inform you that the technical team responsible for solving your problem has informed us that unfortunately it is not able to provide you with support in this situation, because despite our best efforts, we have not been able to determine the cause of the problem.”…Now, in order to remotely lock my car, I first have to unlock it remotely. So I don't do it! I don't need to explain how useful and safe this system is, which only works when I open the car when I'm not there. Regards Ford Ranger user
