Electric Vehicles have been a hot topic in the automotive community for a while, however the market is being flooded with them in recent years. Ford released the Mustang Mach-E in December of 2020 as Ford’s new electric mustang SUV. The Mach-E was Ford’s attempt to enter the electric car scene. However, Ford ran into a few issues with this new car. A few of the issues include, overheating battery resulting in a no start situation, rusting motors which are prone to fail, and the battery even not charging overnight. On another case of Ford electric vehicles, the Ford F150 Lightening has had a better start. Some common issues include bad battery range when towing and inoperative lights. Customers have been happy with their F150 Lightnings as some trucks reportedly went 30,000+ miles in their first year. Ford has done better with the Lightening than the Mach E. Ford Motor Company has made slow improvements with their electric vehicles. They are making adjustments and recalls as they perfect the reliability and other systems in their cars and trucks. Other car brands are also experiencing similar issues with battery life and questionable longevity of the vehicles. Ford patents universal car platform:- Ford has filed a patent for a universal platform to fit a wide range of vehicle types, which may improve quality and lower costs to help fight off cheaper Chinese electric vehicles. The filing was discovered by US website CarBuzz and shows a patent application from Ford for a "vehicle chassis with interchangeable performance packages". The chassis in the application would use the same centre section, but where the Ford engineers have seen an opportunity is for the front and rear sections...... In October 2023, Ford revealed it made a loss of $US36,000 ($AU54,000) on every electric vehicle it built in the previous three months, reducing sales forecasts, cutting its electric car production and lowering vehicle prices in response. That included a price reduction of up to $7000 for the battery-electric Ford Mustang Mach-E SUV sold in Australia on the eve of first customer deliveries. Ford CEO Jim Farley says buyers need to get over their love for "monster vehicles." After killing off Ford sedans and small cars in 2019, Jim Farley is now extolling their virtues and calling on Americans to fall back in love with smaller vehicles. That’s strange coming from an automaker that phased out small cars to focus on SUVs and pickup trucks, which seem to get bigger every generation. Ford is the preeminent maker of large vehicles in the U.S., what with the F-150 consistently being the best-selling model in the country every year. But now that EVs are the future we’re slowly but surely heading toward, Farley says America has to get over so-called “monster vehicles,” and get back to small cars. https://lnkd.in/eZfhy6Ci

Here, the numerous front platform sections – powertrain suspension, wheels and their dimensions – could be fitted to suit the vehicle being built, whether a large SUV, pick-up or smaller urban city car The rear section could also be ‘swapped’, as well as host components such as the powertrain, giving even greater versatility and increasing the number of vehicle types able to be spun off the platform. The benefits could result in lower consumer prices, as the manufacturer works on development of a more affordable electric car.

BMW’s three US software recalls last year put it ahead of many rivals, NHTSA records show. Ford had the most overall with 19, followed closely by Chrysler. Tesla had the highest share with 50 per cent of its 16 recalls requiring a software fix. I was asked on YouTube if I'd buy the Ford Motor Company Lightning again or the Tesla Cybertruck. I figured I'd share my thoughts here as well. What do you all think? 🤔 👇 I would absolutely buy the Lightning again. There are some 23' Lariat ERs going for $65k-$68k out there that are screaming deals. I would wait for the Cybertruck to come down under $80k personally. Both these trucks come with their share of early problems. My Lightning had a tail light and light bar replaced for water condensation, both running boards and my front door panels delaminated and had to be replaced, there was a wiper motor recall and I had a battery module failure before 10k miles. When you get the first year of any of these some gremlins will pop up but they are all under warranty and get resolved. In my case as an apology they gave me an extended warranty to 6yrs 70k miles from the 3yr 36k. I've spent time in both and it just depends what you think will bring you joy to drive each day. Cybertruck is miles ahead in software and tech. That software will get meaningful updates and features for years to come. If you're perfectly happy with Apple Carplay or Android Auto and the lag and limits they bring this may not matter, but otherwise the Lightning will frustrate you. The Cybertruck design stands out and it's durable against life's little dings. It turns and handles better in parking lots, around town and on winding roads. The Lightning is smoother and quieter on the highway and has fewer rattles in general. It also has more leg room in the rear if that matters for how you use it. The front is very similar for leg room but the Lighting feels wider especially the seats and center console which if you're a fluffy fella like me makes a difference in comfort. Ergonomically it fits me and feels better and simple things like the under the arm window button placement and lack of homelink garage door buttons on the visor annoys me with the Cybertruck. In the Lightning ER, the sunroof opens and has a power shade which as a bald guy I find appealing lol. It has lots of affordable aftermarket accessories and repairs are much cheaper for things like a cracked front windshield or new tires for example. The Lightning has more outlets including the Frunk which is unmatched and truly amazing. The Cybertruck delivers more power from the 240v though at 50a instead of only 30a from the Lightning and it has the under bed storage that the Lightning lacks. The Lightning has a spare tire which was important to me but many don't care about. All this to say that they are both special trucks and it really comes down to which features are most important to you. But vehicles aren't always as simple as a practical and logical decision. They speak to our soul and you should pick the one that will excite you and bring you more joy than the payment and depreciation brings anxiety haha. You're likely to be happy with the driving experience either way and likely to find some flaws either way.

When Jim Farley tells you that you have the toughest job in Ford, you know you are dealing with a big challenge. That's what the Ford boss said to Marin Gjaja, COO of Ford's electric Model E division. Chatting to Gjaja at the launch of the new Ford Explorer EV in Slovenia recently, he explained that there is immense pressure to make the right long term investments. That's understandable, after all Ford's electric division showed a loss in earnings before interest and tax of $4.7bn last year. Contrast that with EBIT of over $7bn for its regular Ford Blue division and the same again for Ford Pro. The EV business has changed significantly over the past five years. So too has the certainty for business direction and the role of the consumer in it all. A future ban on sale of new ICE models is still in place in markets like the UK, but the goalposts have moved, as they have in Europe. Gjaja says the market has changed from the early adopters to the early majority customers, but that still leaves billions of consumers yet to decide. Just 2.6% of Ford's global sales were electric in 2023, but the Blue Oval's electric range has been limited compared to many rivals. Gjaja and his team have big hopes for the new Explorer EV. It's still not pure blue though, instead it's a transitional vehicle. If Mustang Mach E was version 1.0, Explorer EV is version 1.5. Utilising Volkswagen's MEB platform makes it another stepping stone on the way to a new pure Ford EV, version 2.0. Behind the PR and marketing commitments, the handshakes with government officials and the roll-out of new models, it's clearly a very challenging time for car companies and their execs. Fortunately, the Explorer EV is rather good.
