Bill Dirksen

Bill Dirksen is vice president, Labor Affairs, a position he has held from Jan. 2014 until Dec. 1, 2019, when he elects to retire. In this role, Dirksen is responsible for global labor policy and negotiations covering Ford’s approximately 140,000 union employees. He led Ford's negotiations with the UAW in 2015. Additionally, he is responsible for hourly employee health care management and the company’s collective bargaining with unions worldwide.

Dirksen reports to Gary Johnson, Chief Manufacturing and Labor Affairs Officer, Ford Motor Company, and to Kiersten Robinson, Chief Human Resources Officer, Ford Motor Company.

Prior to this appointment, Dirksen served as executive director, U.S. Labor Affairs. He played a key role in leading the company’s 2007, 2009 and 2011 UAW negotiations.

Dirksen joined Ford in 1985, and has served as the senior human resources leader in Ford Credit, as well as for manufacturing and quality operations. He also was human resources head for Ford operations in Australia prior to moving to the U.S. labor affairs position in 2007.

Dirksen, born in 1960, earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Notre Dame in 1982, and a master’s degree in industrial and labor relations from Cornell University in 1984.
