More horsepower and torque, better acceleration and projected best-in-class towing capability are enabled by the new standard 3.5-liter, direct-injection, twin-turbocharged EcoBoost® V6 that will power the 2015 Lincoln Navigator.
At least 370 horsepower and 430 lb.-ft. of torque will be produced by the new engine, according to preliminary test data. Final numbers will be announced closer to launch.
The combination of turbocharging, direct fuel injection and variable valve timing creates seamless performance in a smart engine package size. EcoBoost engines also deliver significantly better fuel economy than larger-displacement gasoline engines.
A higher level of torque will be available across a broad rpm range. This means better acceleration and performance feel for customers. An available 4.10:1 rear-axle ratio helps multiply the torque even more for those seeking maximum acceleration or towing capability. The wealth of low-end torque also makes towing and hauling easier.
“Drivers will feel the power when they step on the gas,” said Elaine Bannon, 2015 Lincoln Navigator chief engineer. “The new EcoBoost engine sets the standard in this vehicle segment with its balance of performance and efficiency.”
The new EcoBoost engine is mated to a six-speed SelectShift™ automatic transmission, which allows the driver to manually control gears if desired, and is available in both four-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive configurations.
The public will get its first look at Lincoln’s new full-size luxury SUV at the Chicago Auto Show on Feb. 6. Production of the 2015 Navigator is scheduled to begin late this summer at Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville, Ky., and vehicles are due in Lincoln showrooms in early fall.
