Christopher Svensson oversees the design team responsible for developing new products in North America and South America, as well as supporting Ford’s global design.

Svensson reports to Moray Callum, vice president, design, and is based in Dearborn, Mich. He has been in the role since January 2014. Prior to this, Svensson was exterior design director, The Americas, for one year.

In June 2010, Svensson was appointed as design director, Ford Asia Pacific and Africa, where he oversaw the Asia Pacific Design Centre in Melbourne, Australia, reporting directly to Martin Smith, executive design director, Europe, Asia Pacific and Africa.

Svensson began his career with Ford in 1992 as an exterior designer at Ford of Germany’s design studio. Since then, he has held a number of key positions in the United Kingdom, Europe, North America and Australia. His international credits include concept vehicles such as the Ford Visos, Mercury MC2 and Ford P2000 Holographic project. He also has worked on such varied car programs as the Ford Ka, Puma, Cougar, Fiesta, Focus, C-MAX, Mondeo, Falcon, Taurus and Mustang.

Svensson has used his auto design expertise in the film industry as well, serving as chief designer responsible for development of the pink FAB1 featured in the 2004 movie “Thunderbirds.”

Born and raised in Sunderland, England, Svensson graduated from Coventry University’s vehicle design course in 1990. He earned a Master of Arts degree from Royal College of Art in London in 1992.
