Tim Stone is chief financial officer for Ford Motor Company, effective June 1, 2019. In this role, Stone has overall responsibility for the company’s financial operations, including the Controller’s Office, Treasury and Investor Relations.
Stone joined Ford after decades of experience in the tech industry. He served for 20 years at Amazon, where he led financial support of several of the company’s most significant business intiatives and oversaw operations for others.During this time the company scaled from $150 million in revenue with fewer than 1,000 employees to $200 billion in revenue with 575,000 employees.
He joined Amazon in 1998 as the company’s corporate controller and head of tax. Through the years, he served in a variety of financial leadership roles, helping to oversee corporate business development, leading investor relations, overseeing financial planning and analysis, and heading up European financial operations. He also served as CFO for marquee operations during key periods of growth, including Amazon devices and digital content from 2010 to 2011 and Amazon Web Services from 2012 to 2015.
As the company expanded from its origins as an online bookseller to the multifaceted megabusiness it is today, Stone’s responsibilities also expanded. He partnered with operating business leaders to help drive key areas including operations, data centers, customer experience, manufacturing and fulfillment. During his tenure, Stone took on strategic operations roles including vice president for benchmarking, in which he built and led a worldwide customer experience team. He also oversaw the company’s investment on physical stores, including the integration of Whole Foods.
After his service at Amazon, Stone became chief financial officer for Snap Inc. In that role, he oversaw all finance operations for the public company as well as human resources, real estate, facilities, and security.
Early in his career, Stone worked in financial leadership roles at NextWave Telecom, Platinum Software Corporation and PacTel Cellular. His first role was as an auditor at Arthur Andersen.
Prior to earning his college degree, Stone worked in his father’s general contracting and plumbing business. It was here, more than 30 years ago, that he began his connection with Ford, in the form of the work trucks used in the business.
Stone holds a bachelor of science degree in accounting from University of Southern California. He also serves on the University of Southern California Marshall School of Business Board of Leaders.
