Ford China April Sales Up 29%, Year-to-Date Sales Increase 41%

Ford China sold 96,829 wholesale vehicles last month, up 29 percent from the 75,315 sold in April 2013. Strong April performance pushed year-to-date sales up to 368,150 vehicles, an increase of 41 percent from 261,859 during the same period last year.

April sales of imported Ford vehicles—which include the Ford Explorer, Ford Edge, Ford Focus ST and the Ford Fiesta ST—increased 72 percent compared to April 2013 with 3,251 vehicles sold. Year-to-date sales more than tripled, with 12,249 vehicles, up 202 percent compared to the same period last year. 

Changan Ford Automobile (CAF), Ford's passenger car joint venture, sold 68,119 vehicles in April, an increase of 29 percent compared to April 2013. Year-to-date sales reached 263,317 vehicles, up 46 percent.

With its unique combination of sophisticated style and innovative technology, sales of the Ford Mondeo nameplate increased more than fivefold last month. In April, Ford sold 10,476 Mondeo vehicles an increase of 415 percent from April 2013. Year-to-date sales have more than doubled with 39,287 vehicles sold, up 125 percent from 17,549 during the same period last year.

The Ford Focus nameplate and the Ford Kuga both sold very well in April, with sales growing 11 percent (34,006 vehicles) and 16 percent with (11,102 vehicles) respectively.

April was also a strong sales month for Ford's commercial vehicle investment in China, Jiangling Motors Corporation (JMC). JMC sold 25,459 vehicles in April, up 23 percent from April 2013. Year-to-date sales reached 92,584 vehicles, up 20 percent from the same time last year.

The Ford Transit led JMC sales growth last month, with sales up 25 percent, 7041 vehicles sold compared to April 2013. Year-to-date Transit sales are up nine percent with 24,318 sold.

Last month at the Beijing Auto Show, Ford debuted two new production vehicles: the global debut of the all-new Ford Escort as well as the Chinese auto show debut of the all-new Ford Mustang. In addition to these production cars, Ford gave Auto Show visitors a glimpse at the design direction of a future vehicle with the Ford Everest Concept, a midsize, seven-seat off-road SUV, featuring rugged capabilities and a sleek, refined design.
