FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LOS ANGELES, Calif., Sept. 21, 2014 – A double podium finish allowed Ford to clinch the Red Bull Global Rallycross Championship (GRC) during Round 7 in Los Angeles, California.
A second-place finish by Olsbergs MSE’s (OMSE) Joni Wiman and a third-place finish by Hoonigan Racing Division’s (HRD) Ken Block gave Ford the advantage it needed over their competitors.
"We are proud of the success the Fiesta ST has had in the Red Bull Global Rallycross Championship series over the last four years,” said Jamie Allison, director, Ford Racing. “Winning Ford's fourth consecutive manufacturers’ championship shows that we have the right car for this sport, and the right winning combination of teams and drivers."
A successful season has allowed Ford to clinch the championship with three rounds of racing still remaining in this season. Ford is the only manufacturer in the Red Bull GRC series to claim a perfect manufacturer points race this season, achieving that during Round 4 in Washington, DC.
This season Ford has seen consistent success within the Red Bull GRC series, earning two victories and having at least one podium finish in every race. In addition to the manufacturers’ title, Ford also leads the driver championship standings with SH Rallycross driver Nelson Piquet Jr. and Block tied in first place.
Round 8 of Red Bull GRC action kicks off today in Los Angeles, California. Tune into NBC at 5 PM ET for all the action live.
