Soundbites: November 2017 Sales

Ford Motor Company’s U.S. sales totaled 210,771 vehicles for November, a 6.7 percent gain over 2016.  Here to discuss this performance is Ford’s sales analyst, Erick Merkle.

Cut #1 “For the month of November we sold just over 210-thousand vehicles. That was about a 7 percent gain over a year ago.  And it was really driven primarily by this trend we’re seeing for trucks and SUV’s."  :13 sec.

Merkle says the company sales for trucks and SUV’s were significant.

Cut #2 ” F-series trucks we had our best F-Series Truck sales month in 16 years and our best Ford brand SUV sales month in 17 years.”  :11  sec.

Merkle says the movement from cars to SUV’s is becoming more and more common.

Cut #3 “Moving out of cars and into SUV’s because the fuel economy penalty to go to an SUV is not nearly what it was 15 years ago.” :09 sec.

Edge, Escape and Explorer are all becoming the vehicle of choice because the technology is so much improved over the last couple of decades.

Cut #4 “ And Explorer had its best November since 2004, but these vehicles are much different than they were say 15-17 years ago in the fact that they are now, 4-cylinder engines are now common place  and V-6 engines for like the Explorer are common place, they have displaced things like the traditional V-8 engines.” :21 sec.

Cut #5 “ It was a record November for Edge, its sales were up 22 and half percent, so Edge really had a break out month, but also Explorer, because it represented a 24, almost 25 percent gain in sales with 21,520 vehicles sold and its best November sales performance  almost dating back to 2004.” :24 sec.

Recently at the L.A. auto show the Lincoln Nautilus was introduced, which Merkle says will come out in the summer of 2018.

Cut #6 “And that effectively replaces the MKX, but that mid-size Lincoln SUV  segment, that is our best selling product within the Lincoln portfolio right now, and MKX sales were up 6.9 percent in the month of November.  The other thing that we’re really excited about, we just started, we had really strong pre-orders for the Lincoln Navigator and we were just starting to get some of the new ones out to the dealer lots for the first time here in November as well.” :31 sec.
