Soundbites: 2017 December Sales

Ford SUVs posted record sales while F-Series marked 41 years as America’s Best-Selling Pickup.  Ford Sales Analyst Erich Merkle says Ford achieved its  8th consecutive year as the country’s favorite brand.

Cut #1 “December was a really strong month for us, our overall sales were up 1 percent, we sold 242,049 vehicles.”

However, Merkle suggested we look at the full-year to see the big picture, which has Ford sales totaling 2,586,715 vehicles.

Cut #2 “And the Ford brand, maintained its position for the eighth consecutive year as America’s best-selling brand, so we had a really nice solid year this year and we accomplished a lot.”

F-Series, for the full-year increased 9.3 percent, selling 896,764 trucks, representing its best performance since 2005.

Cut #3 “And that marks 41 now, 41 consecutive years of F-Series as America’s best-selling truck.”

Last year was a historic year for the industry.  So considering that,  sales performed very well in 2017.

Cut #4 “The fact that we had a slight market gain for the year and we had so many strong numbers to report as it relates to F-Series and also Ford-brand SUVs.”

Merkle says it was a record year for SUVs.

Cut #5 “We sold more SUVs last year than at any time in our corporate history. So we really had an outstanding year for Ford SUVs.”

Not to be over looked are the luxury brand Expedition and Lincoln Navigator.  Merkle says the 2018 Expedition is off to a strong start with new models to retail customers turning in just seven days.  Meanwhile, Lincoln Navigator sales outpaced the overall luxury retail segment,

Cut #6 “We’re really excited about the product just launched here late in 2017 it’s the all-new Lincoln Navigator.  Its sales were up 30.1 percent for the month with a really strong start.”
