Soundbites: January 2018 Sales

Overall Ford Motor Company U.S. sales for January totaled over 161 thousand vehicles which was a 6.6 percent decline.  Here to put those number into perspective is Ford Sales Analyst

Erich Merkle who says truck sales figures saw new records with dealers experiencing significant sales gains, especially with Ford Expedition.

Cut #1: ”Yes, Expedition, we had an incredibly good month for the all-new Expedition, which we just launched late last year. Our retail sales were up 56.8 percent. And the turning on dealer lots in just 11 days so an Expedition only stays on dealer lots for 11 days right now, so it’s really fast.”  :21 sec.

Not to be out done was F-Series sales of 58,937 last month. It represents the truck’s best start to the year since 2004… and Merkle says consumers can’t wait to get models with all the bells and whistles.

Cut #2: “People like the wheels, they like all the interior features, the leather seats, all the technology that we’re putting into our trucks, they really like it all.” :10 sec.

While trucks have been stealing the spotlight because of consumer demand, cars sales have dipped, except for the Mustang, which experienced a 10.7 percent increase in sales.

Cut #3: “With Mustang we launch this towards the end of last year.  Our retail sales were up almost 11 percent and we saw really strong gains in some of  the larger sports car markets, like Dallas which was up 39 percent and Houston was up 9 percent, so big, big sales down in Texas.” :19 sec.

Sales of the all-new Lincoln Navigator are up triple digits in every region of the country, Merkle says they’re driving them off the delivery truck and into the customers hands.

Cut #4 “And right now Navigator, on dealer lots,  it’s on a dealer lot on average about seven days, before it’s gone,  so literally they’re coming off the truck and into the customers hands and we’re doing everything we can right now  to keep up with demand for Navigator.” :20 sec.

Merkle says the overall U.S. economy is doing well and that performance is being reflected in sales, particularly in the high-end vehicles being sold daily.

Merkle says the overall U.S. economy is doing well and that performance is being reflected in sales, particularly in the high-end vehicles being sold daily.

Cut #5: “As more and more customers are demanding SUVs, and Pickups and also the high trim level SUVs and Pickups it’s really a very healthy market.”  :10 sec.
