Ford Motor Company’s U.S. Sales for the month of May totaled 242,824 vehicles. Erich Merkle, Ford sales analyst, explains.
Cut #1 “ Our sales were up 1 percent overall and actually, closer to four percent at retail.”
From a mix perspective, Ford experienced a strong sales results from F-Series trucks, having its best May results since the year 2000.
Cut#2 “In fact F-Series is off to its best start since 2000, almost 20 years ago."
Demand for trucks and SUVs continue to operate at record levels, but that was not the case for passenger car sales.
Cut #3 “Well if you look at passenger car sales, we estimate at retail, they were down another 10-11 percent last month. Now what that means when you start talking about year-to-date for passenger cars, they are off to there weakest start since 2009."
The New Lincoln Navigator flew off dealer lots in May with retail sales up triple digits.
Cut#4 “So Navigator sales at both overall and retail increased triple-digits over year ago, at retail there is a 140 percent increase over last year, so we continue to see these significant gains from Navigator and really its everything we can do to keep up with demand.”
Merkle says Ford has been America’s van leader for the last 39 years.
Cut 5 “And last month, Transit sales totaled over 15,000 vehicles, vans, and that represented a little over 12 percent gain over a year ago. But what that performance says is that’s our best sales performance month ever for Ford Transit since its launch back in 2014. So, we’re really optomistic about what we’re seeing in the commercial van segment: strong economy and good van sales.”
