Soundbites: 2018 July Sales

Ford Motor Company’s July U.S. sales totaled 194,026 vehicles, a decline of 3.1 percent, however Ford trucks posted double-digit gains. Here to explain is Ford Sales Analyst Erich Merkle.

Cut #1 “We saw that much of the industry pulled back a little bit on incentives spend relative to June and we think that had some impact  on the overall month of July.” :10 sec.

However, when it comes to trucks, we had double digit increases, which is a reflection on the overall economy.

Cut #2 “And when you look at the underlying economy, it remains very healthy, and that would be indicative of what we’re seeing in the truck market , with F-Series posting gains and vans posting very big gains for Ford Motor Company.”  :14 sec.

Sales of Ford F-Series, America’s best-selling truck for 41 years, were up 2.1 percent while Ford van sales were up 60.8 percent.

Cut #3 “We continue to see people looking for high-end trucks, in fact 52 percent of our Super Duty sales last month were very high end level trucks, they certainly like the bling they are certainly loading up the trucks, they love the technology, and they love the payload and the towing that they get from our F-Series pick-up trucks.” :22 sec.

The Ford Explorer also saw a healthy increase of almost 8 percent during the month of July.

Cut #4 “ Explorer sales were up 7.9 percent in July, we sold just over 20,000 Ford Explorers, and then we continue to see really strong demand for Explorer, even as we prepare next year in 2019 for the all-new Explorer to come out. So we’re really excited about, not only the performance of Explorer today, but also the future of Explorer in 2019.” :22 sec.

Not to be out done is Lincoln and Lincoln Navigator, the first American Vehicle to ever top JD Power’s appeal study.

Cut #5 ”We had retail sales gains of 65 percent in July . Sales were up in every region of the country, so Navigator right now, it’s everything we can do to stay on top of it and  keep-up with demand for the product.” :13 sec.
